Getting married? Well then, you need a photographer right? There are thousands out there, not to mention all those Uncle Bobs with a nice camera just waiting to offer their services to you. How can you possibly make a decision?
Here's what you NEED to do. First, decide how important the photography is for your wedding? Do you want to have an amazing album crammed full with awesome memories of the day you've been planning for months (sometimes years!)?? What will you remember about your wedding photographer in 5, 10 or 20 years from now? Will it be the price you paid? I don't think so. It shouldn't be...it should be the way your photographer treated you and your guests...the quality of the photographs they created...and the fun you had on the day. Wedding photography should be fun. Gone are the days of standing in front of a lens grinning like a cheshire cat for two hours. No-one wants to do that, or look at the resulting photographs.
Get together a list of questions that you want to know about your chosen photographer, and ask! Don't be shy. You need to make sure that whoever you choose is a good fit for your personality. Go ahead, look around, talk to the competition. Then talk to me... Here is how I see wedding photography: Weddings are my passion. I'm a romantic at heart, wear my heart on my sleeve and can often be found with a tear in my eye...hidden behind my camera of course! I love being part of a couple's special day and using my art to provide them with stunning memories. My style is bold, creative and modern, yet romantic and enduring. I pride myself on being a 'no hassle' photographer. I'm easy going and laid back, and my desire is to make you as comfortable and relaxed so that your photographs show happy people!
Having been a wedding photographer for around 15 years, I've seen styles come and go - and many photographers too. These days anyone can buy a medium quality digital SLR and *try* to be a wedding photographer. Some might make it. Some might keel over after the first 8 hour wedding! I use all my experience to capture your day in a documentary led style, with a fashion twist. Take a look around my galleries and see if my style of photography fits yours. If you like what you see, give me a call, send me an email - let's talk about your wedding plans and how I can contribute to you having the most awesome wedding experience possible!
As well as running Katchlight Photography, I am also a lead associate photographer for Powers Oregon, and some of my portfolio was created while shooting weddings for Ben Powers, and are reproduced here with kind permission.
